My pineapple illustration series celebrates the Hawaiian Islands’ many great activities, places and the cultural traditions with a little whimsy and a lot of Aloha! I titled the series after the name Hawaiian’s gave the pineapple when it first arrived. “Hala Kahiki” sort of means “Foreign Fruit” and was coined because the pineapple looks so much like the fruit of a Hala tree, one of the “boat plants” brought by the first Polynesian settlers.
